Supporting sustainability and equity at Western Washington University

During the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years, I served as a Student-at-Large Council Member on the Sustainability, Equity, and Justice Fund at Western Washington University.

The SEJF funds student, faculty, and staff-led projects that advance sustainability, accessibility, equity, and environmental justice on campus. The work sits somewhere between grant review, shared governance, community accountability, and practical campus improvement. As a council member, my role was to review proposals, participate in discussion, evaluate project alignment, and vote on funding decisions. Projects ranged across student life, community engagement, accessibility, reproductive justice, sustainable infrastructure, and broader campus resilience.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewed and voted on proposals spanning community engagement, student life, and sustainable infrastructure
• Evaluated grant requests for projects such as the Disabled Peer Mentorship Program and Reproductive Justice: Equal Access to Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive Care
• Participated in regular meetings each quarter, collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to assess and approve funding toward project proposals

Impact (AY 2024-2025)

• Reviewed and voted on 13 proposals and several renewals
• Allocated $116,120.89 towards projects and teams
